Hi everyone. I am a teacher of technology in a small rural school in Australia and am nearing retirement age. I love to learn with and from my students. It never ceases to amaze me at how engaged students can be when playing their favourite games on mobile devices and the reasons for this fascinate me.
I am not really into playing games at all but wish to introduce an elective on games in education and learning this semester, hoping to assist boys especially to enjoy learning and motivate them to achieve in other subject areas. On Friday lunchtimes, I open up the computer lab so that students who wish to can come in and play their favourite games or bring in their xbox or other gameing devices. Again, I am always fascinated with both the players and also the viewers. Students will quite happily sit and watch those who are playing for the lunch hour. If only we could encourage these same concentrated efforts in our usual classes. I am looking forward to networking with you all and learning what I can to encourage students to learn more. I know that initially I shall be an interested lurker but hope to increasingly become a participator. Thanks for making this course available.
