Maybe this is a topic for a subsequent week but let's talk about gaming services like OpenFeint (iOS, Android, windows phone), Gamecenter (iOS) and xbox live (xbox, windows, windows phone). First, any interest in connecting there with fellow Game MOOCers?

Second, how much of a motivating factor is seeing your friend's achievements in playing your games?

While Achievements don't really urge me on (using the concept of an Achievement as a named recognition for accomplishing me to do something in a game), there is an aspect of what friends achieve that draws me in.

In games like Pinball Arcade and Geometry Wars 2 for the Xbox Arcade, there is a system where you see your score and you see the scores of people on your friends list while you are playing. As you get closer to the next friend on the list, there's a rush of excitement to try and top the score. After beating that score, the next highest score on the list is shown to tempt you further.

For me, these can be motivating in a way I would not have expected.

Doing the same achievement as someone else doesn't do it for me, but something about seeing friends' scores as you are playing adds a level of excitement.
