I'm not a gamer, unless you count playing Mahjongg online at Facebook, so I am here to simply familiarize myself with what's out there, and draw inspiration to create a gaming-style writing exercise in my creative writing courses.
I remember back in 2000, when I first designed online courses for another college, I wanted to incorporate some fun interactive exercises, to take full advantage of the Internet's unique capabilities, but it took me awhile to get this goal accomplished. In the past five years I've added a few interactive exercises in my British Lit course, one called "What's Your Romantic Style?" to go with the Romantic Poets unit, and one that involves matching and drag-and-drop that's designed to help students write a more cohesive literary analysis essay. I also include a poster project using Glogster, where students create a poster about a poet. However, those aren't quite the same as a gaming exercise.
