I am a relatively new teacher, still hoping to find his first full-time job at the HS level, teaching either math or computer applications. I am sort of indifferent to gaming as a personal past time, but truly believe gaming is the path to engaging HS students in learning. I hope to get some ideas on how to incorporate gaming into algebra and geometry.

I watched the WoW tour this morning and had a question (actually many questions, but I will limit myself here). Early in the tour, someone mentioned they had integrated WoW into their Business and/or Economic courses. I wondered, does the Business course limit itself to commerce in the town? I don't see how going on quests to dungeons would promote the curriculum, but I am very new at all this.

Just from the few days I have spent in this community, I can tell it is an extremely supportive environment. I am glad to become a part of it.

Hi John,

Welcome! We will be doing COTS and MMORPGs for Week 2 so plenty of time to ask questions. For the business module I taught in Intro to Business, we did not limit commerce to the town. In World of Warcraft there is an auction house that allows any player on the realm to place an item and any player to bid on the item. We had students report on that as well as overall economy for virtual goods in World of Warcraft.

We have some instructors in the course, who will be discussing their projects a bit more. The economics project and expansion of the Intro to Business curriculum is currently under development and will be taught in the upcoming semesters.

I am going back to watch that WoW tour again. I have played that but very little, it does have a lot to offer, my only drawback is that it has a monthly fee if you don't use the free levels, and it won't download to my college computers. Good luck on that job search!
