The 7th Guest started it all for me.

At this point, sadly, I am only really playing Words with Friends since I'm seriously "in it" in terms of grad school.

Games will return, oh yes they will.

Have to ask - why is words with friends continuing? (Asking because I think it'll make an interesting discussion about games.)

That's an excellent question.

This app isn't much of a continuation, seeing as I got my first mobile device (iPod Touch) this winter. Of course, it MIGHT be the virtual continuation of my enjoyment derived from Scrabble - which has always been around. Convenience is key here, though...I can choose when to play turns without annoying people in real time, or setting up a "game night." Game nights have become "game minutes" and are easier to fit into my schedule at this point.

Also, for discussion...I like that Words w/ Friends games will end at some point and then I'll get a clean slate during a rematch. When I played WoW, I was the type that would create a character on a Friday night, level up to 10, then repeat the same with a different class, etc. for the evening. I had a main, naturally, but developing that character took work and sometimes I wanted to reach that Fiero moment in a slightly different environment (new spells, tactic, etc.).

A similar experience would be when I play Monopoly and vary my strategy..."perhaps this time I WON'T build-up Baltic and Mediterranean early in the game."

There are several great concepts in here that I picked out, MagisterP. Just in the interests of continuing this great thread, I'll list a few...

Convenience! Definitely. Mobile apps give us the power to take a turn at Scrabble (Words for Friends) whenever, wherever. How can this translate to education? How has it translated in the past?

eBooks that are compatible with mobile devices
Learning Management Systems that are compatible with mobile devices
Games played via Twitter, text message, etc....

"Game Minutes" - What a great phrase! This is something I with which I can sympathize. While we don't necessarily want students trying to learn deep concepts in 5 minute chunks, there's something to be said for chunking concepts for easy consumption.

Altaholism - Yup, that's me, too. I have a bazillion characters under level 40 and maybe three above level 40. I love the starting experience. Later in the game, I miss the cinematics and lively story lines in WoW. *sigh*

MagisterP, can you post a pic of a Words for Friends screenshot for those who aren't familiar with the app? (Take a screenshot on the iPod by holding the power button and tapping the button on the front of the iPod.) Only when you have time and only if you feel like it! Busy schedules, I know....

I checked out The 7th Guest, looks like something I would enjoy 7th Guest Game I am not a good scrabble player so don't play words with friends, they would be waiting forever with me to play my turn. I do know those who really do play it a lot. Why is it ending?

I do play scrabble in apps but not with others. I guess it is that I am too anxious for my next turn to wait. Never understood how anyone could play "chess by mail" LOL

You bet:

Is there an easier way to share a screenshot through this site other than uploading it to my [business] website and then providing the link?

Yes! You can upload it to Flickr and associate it with the GamesMOOC group in Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/groups/gamesmooc/). Flickr gives you BBCode that you can use directly in the compose window.

Kae posted more info on that process here. Hope that helps!

Thank you for the image!
