My name is Lori Wahl, and I am an instructor at the University of Idaho in Clothing, Textiles and Design. I worked in the apparel industry for over 15 years prior to teaching. I spent much of this time working with people all over the world who I never met face to face. This experience led to a huge interest in connecting with people through various digital tools for collaboration, idea exchange, learning, and having fun. I use forums, Skype, Google Hangouts, text messaging, email, Google Drive (document editing), virtual worlds, and other tools for collaboration.

I am a gamer and have been for the past 15 years and a member of the same gaming clan for 10 years. I usually play FPS games like Killing Floor, but did try my first RPG (Diablo) last year. The graphics were GORGEOUS! I am also an addicted Minecrafter. I am a member of several online non-gaming communities as well and have maintained a blog since 2005.

I believe immersive experiences help students understand how to apply knowledge learned in the classroom. Live simulations in a classroom are wonderful but can become expensive and there is limited time during a semester to run elaborate process simulations. Recreating some experiences virtually is a cost effective solution and also allows students to "re-run" the experience over and over. I work with the University of Idaho's Virtual Campus team, and we have created three immersive simulations on our Second Life campus of Idahonia. We use game-like goals and interaction to help participants learn. I use Second Life to deliver lectures to my online course students.

I am open to anything that will encourage interaction and participation and am excited to learn. This is my first MOOC and I am very interested to see how the interaction and content delivery works. I am hoping to be fairly active, but may fade to lurking from time to time.

My Second Life name is Diantha Petrov which is my username in here. My Twitter name is lori_wahl. I blog here Patache which is more about my creative pursuits and less about education.

Clothing, Textiles, and Design?... Fascinating! I do hope you consider sharing the experiences you've had with edtech. It would be wonderful to hear about some of the methods used by the University of Idaho's Virtual Campus Team. Welcome!

Its great to meet another miner. I love using it to design home ideas and other structures. Have you tried other skins to see how the textures work with what you make?
