My name is Donald Peters and I am a high school art teacher in a nationally recognized 1:1 school district - Mooresville, NC. All our students grades 4-12 receive a Macbook Air. President Obama just visited our school district last Thursday and my Superintendent received national superintendent of the year for our 1:1 system.
I have been teaching for 20 years (will be 21 next fall) and have taught all grade levels, races, economic backgrounds, rural, urban, suburban. You name it, I've done it.
I am planning on converting my art classes (at a minimum in the fall, Graphic Design and Ceramics) to a game based system being built by Mike Skocko and his students (http://edex.adobe.com/resource/89897cc9d8/).
I have immense background in gaming, beginning with the original Space Invaders console and Pong. I had an Atari 2600, and currently own an Xbox and a Wii (even though I am 43 now!) My wife and I played Lineage II (a Korean based MMORPG) for 6 years and were members of the top clan on our server. (Lineage II was before WoW, and as a comparison, there are two dragons in LII that require over 1,000 people over 10 hours to kill)
My expectations are a new way to teach my students and to make their learning more autonomous and more choice based (basing the 'base' design off of the 'Teaching Artistic Behavior' method of teaching) So students will be presented with knowledge based tasks and then given a choice of method and media for which to 'prove' their learning. I will have all lessons demo'd on videos that students can watch on their laptops instead of watching me demo it live. I will become a facilitator of learning instead and help where help is needed and advise where advice is needed but students will guide their own learning.
I welcome collaborators, but truthfully am diving in the deep end head first and am not sure what lies in the murk at the bottom.
Also, my twitter is @MrPeters67 and my blog is 'talesoftheartpocalypse.wordpress.com' (it is new and also being used for other PD). My gamification site is 'talesoftheartpocalypse.com' and is still under construction.
Another note: I will not be able to play WoW as I am completely Mac based now and do not run Windows at all. I am unsure how that will affect my completion of the MOOC?
No WoW required to participate in THIS cMOOC! ^_^ We welcome all games for exploration through educational lenses. I will say, it seems your experience is wonderfully diverse and I am excited to learn with you.

So glad to see you here! I missed Part I of the Summer GamesMOOC, but I'm going to try to participate in Part II. Maybe I'll "see" you in some of the synchronous events.
Also, I use World of Warcraft on my Macbook. I downloaded the client directly onto my Mac, then I copied it to a 32 GB flash drive and deleted the one on my hard drive. I play it from there, and it works fairly well. (I prefer to play it on my desktop computer, but it works on the Mac, too.)
