Hello There!

This is your introduction. Every hero needs a quest to begin the journey and inspire them when they are in the grips of grinding. So our question for you is:

What is your Quest? or tell us why you have decided to join us in the exploration of games based learning?

Some things to include in your post are:

  • What level of Education are you thinking of using GBL for?
  • What types of games are you thinking about using?
  • How much experience do you have in gaming?
  • What are your expectations of GBL's affect on your students / clients?
  • Are you looking for collaborators?

Please also include your weapons of choice - weapons of mass social media. [lol]

Let us know your twitter handle, your blog and any other SoMe that you would like to share.

P.S. Please start a new thread when you introduce yourself – this makes it much easier for us to reply to you personally. Just click on the Introduce Yourself to the Guild! link at the top of this page and look for the gray "Add Thread" button!

Hello!

My name is Pam and I have no gaming experience. I am an Educational Technologist at a university and am researching GBL for our university and education department. My expectations are that I will learn more about GBL so that I in turn can teach the teachers in our training program about the tools available.

My weapon of choice will be Twitter - @pljimison

My name is Scott Meunier and I am excited to return for the Fall 2013 MOOC! I consider this MOOC to be a major part of my professional development and I would only miss one if I happened to be becoming a father (which is why I missed the Spring and Summer MOOCs!)

I am the principal of a public charter school in Edmonton, Alberta. We serve mainly youth who have been disengaged from formal learning and it's our job to support them in their re-engagement!

Recently, I gave a presentation on #gbl and #gamification in K-12 environments. I am continuing to try to spread the word about this to make the conversation mainstream!

I am looking forward to making, hacking, and playing! Cheers!

Hello, I'm Mina ZedWord. I first participated in the Games MOOC during Summer 2012. I teach college English and starting gamifying my first-year composition classes around that time, experimenting with adding role-play and game-like rewards.

Right now I'm in the process of turning one of my classes into a Role-Playing Game similar to Call of Cthulhu (you can read about my initial ideas for this on my blog). I'm hoping to use this iteration of the MOOC to make more connections among people interested in games-based learning and gamification and to help me in designing my first game. And to have fun, of course!

Hi Scott,

Great to have you back! We're seeing making, hacking and modding/designing games as the next progression. The maker movement is getting considerable educational buzz these days in the U.S. It was featured part of the U.S. Department of Education's Connected Educator Month. We feel with games, that you play (or teach with) them, then you want to mod and then you want to create your games. And thanks for carrying the games based learning torch!

Hi Mina! I read your blog when I saw it posted on the Gamification Google + site. I really think it's the mystery and the challenge that draws students in. On Monday night I did a very simple "find the griefer" game in Second Life. I didn't spend a lot of time developing it and was demonstrating using a "second screen" with a mobile device, the participants enjoyed solving the whodunit.
